Teeth whitening can be divided into 1) internal tooth bleaching and 2) external tooth bleaching
1) Internal tooth bleaching:
Internal tooth bleaching is mainly used for a single tooth that have undergone root canal treatment (endodontic). The dentist will place a whitening solution directly inside the tooth to break up and remove pigment deposits. Internal tooth bleaching must be done by a dentist and requires at least two visits.
2) External Tooth bleaching:
Unlike internal tooth bleaching, external tooth bleaching can be used on more teeth and does not require root canal treatment. There are two main types of external tooth bleaching: office whitening (blue light whitening) and home whitening.
Office Bleaching (blue light whitening):
In-office Bleaching is performed by a dentist in the office. The dentist will apply a concentrated whitening gel on the surface of the teeth and use a special light or laser to stimulate the solution to speed up the bleaching process. Office bleaching is usually completed in a single appointment and the results are usually faster and more significant.
Home Bleaching :
Home bleaching is done at home, using a custom-made tooth gel and bleaching solution, which is then placed inside the tooth gel and worn as directed. Home bleaching usually takes several weeks and provides a gradual whitening effect.
